Meat Packaging Reduction Initiatives : Sainsbury’s beef mince products

Sainsbury’s beef mince products are being given a packaging overhaul in the UK to help reduce material use and provide shoppers with an exceptional level of quality.

The packaging consists of vacuum-sealed bags that will replace conventional plastic trays, which is reported save 450-tonnes of plastic on an annual basis. The packaging will reuse the amount of plastic for each product by 55% and will also enhance freshness thanks to its aforementioned vacuum-sealed format.

Director of Product and Innovation Claire Hughes spoke on the packaging update to Sainsbury’s beef mince products saying, “We strive to be bold in the changes we are making, which is why we’re pleased to be the first UK retailer to vacuum pack all our beef mince range without impacting the quantity or great quality of product that our customers expect.”
